Target
The 2024 edition of GeoAdriatico hosts a lectio magistralis for the attendees of the International Summer School Sustainable Blue Economy in the Euro-Mediterranean Region, organized by the National Institute of Oceanography and Experimental Geophysics – OGS (www.ogs.it) in collaboration with the Copernicus Academy, as well as for the students of the Advanced Master on Sustainable Blue Growth organized by OGS in collaboration with the University of Trieste. These are researchers and young students who, coming to Trieste from different parts of the world, look to the sea as an essential element for the future of society.
Blue economy
In a region like the Euro-Mediterranean, where the sea is an integral part of daily life, the Blue economy is the model for defining common standards for socially and environmentally sustainable development. The Summer School is, therefore, an opportunity to improve professional skills in order to build effective and sustainable governance of the seas and oceans.
The Sustainable Blue Economy school in the Euro-Mediterranean Region, included in the Blue Skills project promoted by the Union for the Mediterranean, enjoys the support of the European Commission through the Erasmus + program, of the Ministry of Education, University and Research (MIUR) within the 5 + 5 Dialogue network, and of the Central European Initiative (CEI).
Themes & Approaches
Multi-disciplinarity and personal initiative are the founding principles of the approach adopted by the Summer School which, organized face-to-face and online between Trieste and Piran (Slovenia), characterizes its activities by practical lessons, workshops and field visits in order to address the challenges for marine sciences which, in the 21st century, require a multidisciplinary approach.
Students, thanks also to participation in the targeted Lectures Magistralis of GeoAdriatico, have the opportunity to discuss scientific doctrines for the affirmation of the Blue economy. In this way, the Summer School, in addition to contributing to the promotion of employment in the context of the so-called blue jobs, at the same time favors dialogue between Mediterranean countries.
